Congrats to our GLTC Tennis Division 3A Connacht League Team who won their first league match against Loughrea Tennis Club in a very close fixture last night, lasting over three hours in the pouring rain!! Well done Bridget, Elanna, Brian and Johnny! Also many thanks to Loughrea TC for being such lovely hosts!

Best of luck to all our other teams who are playing their first matches of the season tomorrow in GLTC from 10.30am!!

Our two Division 2 teams will both take on Manorhamilton TC while our second Division 3 team will take on Maree TC! All are welcome to come down and support our players and see some quality tennis! Also best of luck to our Division 1 team who take on Sligo TC in Sligo too! :)

Galway Lawn Tennis Club shared their album. ... See MoreSee Less

Last Sunday we had our second American Tournament of 2016. Thirty-two tennis players participated in three different sections. Despite difficult wet conditions, every player persevered and there were some great games played. It was a delight to see some new members of the club getting a chance to play in their first competition at GLTC. The event was organised by Tennis Committee members Brian O’Farrell and Evelyn Smyth and Jennifer Bradley. The first section had five mens teams in it, and was won by Gordon Potter and Robert Johnson who made a formidable partnership winning with a total of 20 games. David Burke and Cathal McEvoy pushed them close by winning 3 of their 4 matches, ending on a total of 16. The second section was the closest of all three. Iggy Roddy and Monika Cudo were triumphant with 17 games. Emma Murphy and Cormac Haverty came a very close second on 16 games, and badminton buddies Jack Davies and Deirdre Byrnes came third with 15 games. Maeve Kavanagh and Stephen Parkinson won the third section with 26 games. An all female team of Evelyn Smyth and Sue Lees followed them closely on 23 games. Congratulations to all the winners, and runners up, and thank you to all who came and participated in the tough conditions. After the tournament, many of the competitors enjoyed the barbecue organised by the FC’s Catering while watching the Men’s Wimbledon Final. Huge thanks to Helen & Francis at FC Catering for the amazing BBQ food and for hosting the 1st Annual Wimbledon Mens Singles Final BBQ at the GLTC Bar Venue!

Galway Lawn Tennis Club is spread over three acres of ground in the scenic heartland of Salthill, overlooking Galway Bay. The club itself is over 100 years in operation and is widely known throughout the county and Ireland as a centre of excellence specializing in racket sports.

Tennis, Squash and Badminton are all actively played throughout the year by our members. As the Galway Lawn Tennis Club is a members club, we continuously strive to be an open community that welcomes new members. Furthermore, external social gatherings are very high on our agenda as we believe all sport and no-play makes us all far too serious.

Awards

Galway Lawn Tennis Club is the 2014 Winner of the prestigious Badminton Ireland Club of the Year Award for its outstanding contribution to the growth and progress of the sport in Ireland. In addition, GLTC was also the 2002 Winner of Irish Tennis Club of the Year, and in 2006 we were finalists in the same category.
